How to make Moong Daal as the fasting or upvas main course - Old Indian Kitchen.

In auspicious days, we Indian people are doing fasting, actually its a very good habit. Sometimes a partial fasting or complete fasting help you to be more spiritual and also help you in releasing the bad toxins from your body.

I too do partial fasting one two times in a year. In many of our families, we are using split yellow moong daal to make the main course of fasting.

Moong Daal is very light and low fat daal and good for sick and fasting people. Many people will find fasting food as a boring food.Today I will guide you to how to convert this boring food into a yummy delicious food without using restricted ingredients.😉

Vegetable mix daal for Fasting main course

Ingredients:

  • Yellow split moong daal 100 grams.
  • Mix Vegetable as per your choice (Papaya, carrot, green peas, potato) 50 grams
  • Ginger 1 inch for daal and 1/2 inch for chutney.
  • Pure ghee for daal 2 to 3 tbsp.
  • Squeezed lemon 2 tbsp for chutney.
  • Salt (Special salt which is used for fasting).
  • Sugar.

Daal Recipe:

  1. Wash and clean the moong daal and soak in water for 3 hours.

  2. Put a cooking container on gas stove and add 500 ml water.
  3. Meanwhile you cut vegetables as per your choice. In my recipe, I am using carrot, potato only.

  4. Once water starts boiling, add 95 grams of moong daal and keep that remaining 5 grams for chutney.
  5. Add salt and 1/3 tbsp of sugar in the container.
  6. Once water and daal starts boiling together, you will see a white layer on the top.

  7. Remove that white layers and add the vegetables.

  8. If more white layers are coming,them remove them all with the help a ladle.

  9. Add chopped ginger and allow them to cook in low heat.
  10. Cover the daal for 20 minutes.
  11. Check the daal, if it is boiled properly, then turn off the heat.
  12. Add the pure ghee for mouth-watering smell, it will make your boil dish delicious.You can have stomach full food with the help of this ghee smell.

Recipe for Moong daal chutney

  1. Take one grind jar.
  2. Add the remaining 5 grams of moong daal with peeled ginger, salt and squeezed lemon.

  3. Grind all smoothly.
  4. If required, add 1 tbsp of water.
  5. Your fasting yummy appetizing chutney will be ready in 2 minutes.
