Matar Ghugni - Dry Matar recipe - Old Indian Kitchen

How to make dry peas gravy - Old Indian Kitchen



Hello everyone, welcome back to your Old Indian Kitchen.


Again, I am bringing a very simple less spicy Indian dish to you. It is a well known dish in India, people call it "Matar Ghugni".

 Dried peas are low cholesterol & energy booster food. It can be taken by  people of any age group. Its also very easy to find in the market. So lets start with me and enjoy your day !

Dry peas recipe
Ghugni (My lunch box)

Ingredients:

  • Dry yellow/ green peas 100 grams.
  • Onions slices using 1 big onion. (60 grams)
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp.
  • Cumin powder/ any sabji masala 1 tbsp.
  • Peeled potato 2 ,make two pieces each.
  • Chili 2.
  • Oil.
  • Turmeric.
  • Salt.
  • Sugar 1/4 tbsp.

Recipe:

  1. Wash and soak the peas in the water for overnight/ 5 hours.
  2. Boil the peas with water, salt and one peeled potato.
  3. I am using pressure cooker to boil the peas, just allow one whistle, simmer the cooker for 5 minutes.
  4. Once cooker releases its inner gas, heat 3 tbsp of oil in a cooking pan.
  5. Add the cumin seeds and simmer the gas.
  6. Add onions, saute them well.
  7. Add split chili 2.
  8. Add turmeric and sugar.
  9. Saute them well
  10. Once onions raw smell is gone, just add the boiled peas+potato without water.
  11. Mix them well.
  12. Add cumin powder/ any sabji masala.
  13. Add the remaining water from the cooker.
  14. Allow them to boil for 5 to 7 minutes.
  15. All process will take 20 minutes.
  16. You  can serve it warm with chapati/ rice/ bread/ samosa etc.
* If you wish , you can add fried paneers after step 13.
*You can garnish the dish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

******We are using some basic ingredients in almost all the recipes. Here, we will try to mention all the benefits of each ingredient.

Onion benefits:
1.Onion is a good source of vitamin C.
2.Onion improves the immunity system of human body.
3.Onion regulates the blood sugar.
4.Onion (raw onion)keep your heart healthy by reducing the production of bad cholestrol.
5.Onion is reducing the risk of gastric ulcers.

Garlic benefits:
1.Garlic is a natural blood purifier.
2.Garlic is good for reliefing cold and flu.
3.Garlic and mustard oil hot mixer is very good for massage.
4.It is very good for high blood pressure.
5.Garlic can prevent heart disease.
6.Garlic may help you live longer.

Ginger benefits:

4.It helps in food digestion.
5.It helps in reducing muscle pain.

Pach Phoron and benefits:
 Panch Phoron is a combination of five spices in a equal amount, named fenugreek seed, nigella seed or kalonji, cumin seed, black mustard seed and fennel seed.
Benifits:
1.You will get benifits of five seeds in a same time in one recipe.
2.It very easy to use pach phoron in preparing lenthils.
3.It will satisy your taste because all the seeds have different, nice flavour.
4.It is usefull in preparing pickles.

Fenugreek seed benefits:
1.It is good for high bp patient.
2.It is also benificial for diabetic patient.
3.It helps to reduce cholesterol.
4.It helps to relieve sore throat pain and cough.
5.It is very good for new mothers.

Black mustard seed benefits:
1. It is good for skin and hair.
2.It fights against infection.
3.Mustard seed slows ageing.
4.Also mustard seed can prevent many disease.

Nigella or kalonji seed benefits:
1.It is very helpful in different disease.
2.It is good in cold.
3.It is natural fertilizer booster.

Fennel seed benefits:

3. It is good for eyesight.
4. It helps purify blood.
5  It is a natural mouth freshner.

Garam masala (Mixer of cinnamon + cloves + cardamom) benefits:
